Vikings poised to release first-round pick after $13 million loss.

The Minnesota Vikings bet on Marcus Davenport's health last year

igning the former New Orleans Saints first-round choice to their richest single-year contract worth $13 million.

That agreement already looked awful after a pair of ankle injuries limited Davenport to just two full games this season —

but the facts of his contract indicate the Vikings made a mistake. Beat writers Andrew Krammer and Ben Goessling reported

on The Star Tribune's "Access Vikings" podcast that while Davenport had $2 million in per-game roster bonuses to earn,

According to Krammer, the only exemption for Davenport getting those roster bonuses was if he was out with an injury to a shoulder that he had surgery on twice in 2022.

"The Vikings were well aware of his injury history," Krammer explained. "They knew what they were getting themselves into, but they still gave him that contract."

Davenport is unlikely to be re-signed in the offseason, according to Goessling and Krammer.
