The American Revolution is in full swing in explosive Outlander season 7 trailer

The first trailer for Outlander's long-awaited season 7 shows Jamie and Claire Fraser trapped in the heart of a revolution.

The first half of the upcoming season, which premieres June 16 at 8 p.m. on STARZ, will start up after the events of season 6. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Young Ivan

 (John Bell) must find Claire (Caitriona Balfe) before she is wrongly imprisoned for the murder

Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds); unfortunately, the American Revolution has arrived, forcing Jamie into war.

They "navigate the perils of the Revolutionary War," according to a press release, "they learn that sometimes to defend what you love, you have to leave it behind." 

During the revolt, the summary adds, Jamie and his friends "are faced with impossible decisions that have the potential to tear their family apart."

This is obvious in the action-packed trailer (above), which depicts soldiers storming the battlefield and Jamie falling unconscious during the battle.

"Season 7 is all about fractured villains," executive producer Maril Davis recently told Entertainment Weekly. "A supersized season calls for supersized villains — or multi-pronged villains.
