Outlander Season Premiere Recap: Take a Vow

Note: Starz subscribers may watch the early online launch of Outlander's fifth season now. The show will air on Starz on Sunday, February 16 at 8 p.m. ET

Folks, we have a Murtagh issue. A MURTAGH PROBLEM, once again. Hold me, someone. When the fourth season of Outlander ended with Jamie getting orders from Governor Tryon to find his godfather,

, it was evident enough. However, after watching the opening scene of the fifth season,

which features a young Murtagh swearing to follow little Jamie everywhere, it's extremely hard to argue against it today. This season,

Brown had come to arrest Claire for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds).

Outlander is preparing us to witness the trials and tribulations of this beautiful partnership. Given that TV Murtagh has progressed much beyond Book Murtagh—

as even non-readers now realize—Murtagh's destiny has always been a ticking time bomb for Outlander to play with.

Our darling Silver Fox has been living on borrowed time ever since Culloden. I now dread the worse because Governor Tryon mentioned hanging Murtagh's body to serve as a lesson to future Crown traitors.
