TRUE REASON RORY MCILROY IS NOT PGA TOUR SENTRY

Rory McIlroy has opted out of the first event of the 2024 PGA Tour season at The Sentry in Hawaii this week.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions, originally known as The Sentry Tournament of Champions, is the first of eight official PGA Tour events in 2024.

However, McIlroy, 34, is the only qualifying player in the field who has opted out of the PGA Tour's lid-lifter at renowned Kapalua.

With McIlroy's departure, The Sentry now has 59 members.  McIlroy's choice to forgo The Sentry is straightforward

He dislikes Hawaii and prefers to begin his season in more comfortable settings on the DP World Tour in Duba

The Northern Irishman last competed in The Sentry in 2019, finishing fourth.

McIlroy has instead decided to begin his 2024 season next week at Dubai Creek Resort for the first Dubai Invitational.

The next week, he will go to Emirates Golf Club in search of a record fourth Dubai Desert Classic victory.
