Steelers' Mike Tomlin makes a choice on his coaching future.

Speculation about Mike Tomlin's plans for the near future can be put to rest. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the NFL's

longest-tenured coach has informed the Steelers that he would stay with the team through 2024.

Tomlin has only one year left on his current contract. Given the Steelers' historical habit of negotiating extensions with two years remaining on his contract,

concerns have been raised regarding a possible lame-duck season. According to recent sources, Tomlin took a step back and evaluated his situation this offseason, but he made a choice quickly.

Pittsburgh's season, which had questions about Tomlin's run of never losing a season, ended with a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance.

However, the Steelers' wild-card loss to the Bills on Monday means they haven't won a postseason game since 2016.

Tomlin has faced increased criticism in this aspect, but he has garnered strong public backing from his players following the loss.

Any future Pittsburgh coaching search will now be postponed for at least a year. Pittsburgh's nearly unprecedented choice to change coordinators in the middle of the season helped define the 2023 season.
