Coco Gauff shares her secrets to victory at the Australian Open.

Young American Coco Gauff defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-3, 6-0 in 60 minutes in Melbourne despite first-match nervousness.

Gauff advances to 2024 Australian Open Round 2.

Gauff stated in her post-match interview that she “was a little nervous the first set.” Even though Gauff is a Grand Slam champion, she still has first-match nervousness.

“I think I'm always nervous in the first round of slams,” Gauff remarked.

Despite her nerves, Gauff continued.  Gauff revealed how she won eight straight games after getting worried at 3-3 in the opening set of her match tonight.

Gauff reminded herself, “I feel good, I look good, so just have fun” to relax.

Gauff started the match strong despite her fears in the first set. Gauff maintained momentum throughout the match after breaking Schmiedlova's serve early.

Gauff broke Schmiedlova's serve every game in the first set with her return of service. After the match, Gauff stated, “I think I did well returning, and then I found my serve toward the end in the second set.”
